My name is Libby and I am a person-centred therapist working near Bakewell in the Peak District National Park. Welcome to my therapy website.

My focus of therapeutic work is through providing a non-judgemental, empathic and honest collaboration in order to help my clients grow towards their potential. I work to provide warmth and safety for people to explore whatever has brought them to therapy, so we can find a way forward together.

It may be that you are starting from a place that feels very difficult, whether this is through coping with illness, bereavement, stress and anxiety, changes in your life or working with past trauma. It may be that you are looking to explore and process your feelings, re-examine past events or get to know yourself in more depth.

Wherever you start, I believe that through a strong and supportive therapeutic relationship, the work can be started that will help you in your life path to move forwards and reach your well-being potential, whatever that looks like for you.

Background and Working experience

I have a psychology background, gaining both a degree in psychology and a PhD researching mental health. I also have experience teaching Psychology at Leicester University.

During my PhD research I volunteered in a number of mental health settings, including working with patients on a mental health ward, with an early intervention walking group and in a neuropsychology service. Remembering this experience, alongside a period as a volunteer tutor with young people, gave me the desire to re-train as a therapist in order to support people with their mental health.

More recently, I have gained experience volunteering at Ashgate Hospice, with terminally ill people, their carers and people affected by bereavement. I have also worked at New Futures, supporting women who have experienced trauma either through abuse or exploitation.

I have a special interest in working with people with long-term conditions, helping them to process and adjust to a changed life. This was the focus of my masters’ research project and has personal significance as I live with the long-term conditions of Myasthenia Gravis and Grave’s Disease. Through my experience I believe that people with long-term conditions can continue to grow and achieve life goals, and I want to help support people to do this.

Therapeutic Offering

I offer clients a number of ways to access therapy. I have a dedicated therapy room at my home, in Middleton-by-Youlgrave, for those who would like to have a traditional therapy session.

I offer walking one-to-one sessions as well, making the most of the the Peak Park as a healing connection to nature while working therapeutically.

I also offer online and telephone work, for those clients who prefer a remote way of working for whatever reason.

I work with adults, older adults, teenagers and children. I am available on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday day, with some evening availability.

I charge £50 for a session but I also offer discounted session of £30 for students and those on lower wages.

I am currently completing a level 5 qualification in working with children and young people. As part of this I am offering discounted session to clients aged 11-17, at £25 a session.
